Detailed Beginner Care Guide
1. Placement & Aquascaping
This versatile plant works exceptionally well as a foreground carpeting plant or planted along the midground to drape over driftwood and rocks. Beginners can gently press sections into the substrate or anchor them near hardscape elements. Over time, it sends out horizontal runners that weave together to form a dense, textured green mat.
2. Lighting & Growth Habits
To encourage horizontal, compact growth rather than sparse vertical stretching, provide moderate-to-high lighting. If the stems begin growing upward too rapidly, regular trimming with aquascaping scissors will encourage lateral branching, resulting in a thick, carpeted layout.
3. Substrates, Nutrients & CO2
Hydrocotyle tripartita absorbs nutrients efficiently through both its root system and water column. It performs best in nutrient-rich aquarium soil paired with a comprehensive liquid fertilizer regimen. While carbon dioxide (CO2) injection is not strictly mandatory, adding 15 to 25 mg/L of (CO2) will dramatically accelerate growth speed and enhance leaf coloration.
