Note for Beginner Aquarists: Because Jurassic Reef Rock is 100% dry and free from wild organic pests, algae, and parasites, it must undergo a "cycling" process. Adding beneficial nitrifying bacteria and a nitrogen source during setup will colonize the porous rock surface, establishing the biological filter needed to keep fish and corals safe and healthy.

1. Water Chemistry & Compatibility

Jurassic Reef Rock consists of natural calcium carbonate. In saltwater environments, it slowly releases natural buffers that help stabilize alkalinity and keep the pH safely around 8.1–8.4. It is also suitable for African Cichlid or brackish tanks that require higher pH levels. It is not recommended for soft-water planted aquariums that require acidic pH levels.

2. Pre-Rinsing & Aquascaping Design

Before placing the rock into your aquarium, rinse each piece thoroughly in warm, clean water or RO/DI water to wash away loose dust from transport. The natural textures, crevices, and irregular contours make stacking easy. Secure heavy structures using aquarium-safe epoxy or superglue gel (cyanoacrylate) to prevent shifting or tipping.

3. Biological Cycling

Unlike wild live rock, dry reef rock contains no live bacterial colonies. To kickstart your biological filter, place the rocks in your tank, add saltwater, and seed the system with a quality bottle of nitrifying bacteria. Within a few weeks, the porous interior will become populated with beneficial micro-organisms, supporting a healthy ecosystem for fish, corals, and invertebrates.
