Morio Worms, widely known as Superworms (Zophobas morio), are premium, nutrient-dense live feeder insects prized by hobbyists for conditioning large freshwater predatory fish, aquatic turtles, and semi-aquatic amphibians. Offering an excellent source of rich proteins and essential fats, they serve as an optimal conditioning diet to encourage vibrant health and vigorous feeding responses in larger aquatic specimens.
Short Description & Highlights
Supplied in a convenient count of 25 to 30 pieces, these active Zophobas morio larvae feature a soft yet durable exoskeleton packed with high-value nutrition. While traditionally used for reptiles, larger carnivorous aquarium fish—such as Arowanas, Cichlids, and large Catfish—find them exceptionally palatable. Beginner aquarists should feed them sparingly as an occasional treat or conditioning supplement due to their high fat content.

Detailed Beginner Feeding & Care Guide
1. Suitability & Feeding Frequency
Superworms are significantly larger and have stronger mandibles than standard mealworms. Beginner aquarists should ensure their fish or aquatic pets are large enough to consume them safely. Because of their rich lipid profiles, they should be offered as a supplemental conditioning food rather than a primary daily staple. For medium-sized predatory fish, cutting or dispatching the worm prior to feeding is recommended to prevent any risk from the worm's powerful mouthparts.
2. Storage and Husbandry
Do not refrigerate Morio worms, as cold temperatures will kill them. Store them in a well-ventilated, shallow plastic container at normal room temperature (around 18°C to 22°C). Keep them separated from traditional substrate materials by bedding them on clean wheat bran, oats, or cornmeal.
3. Gut-Loading for Enhanced Nutrition
To maximize the health benefits for your aquatic pets, "gut-load" the superworms 24 hours prior to feeding by offering them slices of fresh vegetables (such as carrots, potatoes, or squash) along with a dry hydration source. This ensures your fish receive essential vitamins and minerals directly through the food chain.
