Detailed Beginner Care Guide
1. Preparation & Rinsing
Before introducing the substrate into your aquarium, place the sand in a clean bucket and rinse it thoroughly with fresh water until the runoff runs clear. This removes any fine residual dust from transport, ensuring your tank water remains crystal clear upon initial fill.
2. Aquascaping & Placement
Distribute the substrate evenly across the bottom of the aquarium to a recommended depth of 1 to 2 inches (depending on your layout and livestock needs). The fine texture allows sand-sifting marine animals to filter through it naturally without damaging their delicate tissue, while also giving a polished look to miniature and large-scale reef layouts alike.
3. Water Chemistry & Maintenance
Because this substrate is composed of natural calcium carbonate, it actively helps buffer your water parameters against sudden drops in pH. For routine maintenance, gently vacuum the surface during water changes using a siphon adjusted to stay just above the sand line to prevent pulling the fine grains away.
