The Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red' is a striking, broad-leaved aquatic aroid prized for its rich coppery-pink, violet, and deep reddish hues. Serving as an exceptional centerpiece or midground plant, it brings a unique color palette and texture reminiscent of terrestrial aroids directly into the freshwater aquarium.
Short Description & Highlights
Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red' is a hardy, rosette-forming rhizomatous plant that introduces distinct bronze-red tones to the aquarium midground. Similar in care requirements to popular Cryptocoryne species, it is well-suited for beginner aquarists looking to incorporate sophisticated colors without demanding and complex maintenance routines.

Detailed Beginner Care Guide
1. Planting & Placement
When introducing Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red' to your aquarium, treat it similarly to a Cryptocoryne. Plant the roots securely into a nutrient-rich substrate such as aquasoil, but ensure that the horizontal stem structure (rhizome) and the base of the leaf stems (crown) remain completely uncovered and above the substrate surface. Burying the rhizome can cause the plant to suffocate and rot.
2. Lighting & Nutrition
This plant is adaptable and survives in low-light setups, but providing moderate LED lighting alongside a quality substrate will help draw out its signature rich pinkish-red and violet tones. Because of its slow growth rate, its nutrient demands are modest; standard fish waste and a nutrient-rich substrate are often enough to sustain it, though root tabs can be added if kept in inert sand or gravel. CO₂ injection is optional and not mandatory for success.
3. Acclimation & Propagation
Do not be alarmed if the plant experiences minor leaf melt or shedding shortly after being introduced to a new tank; this is normal behavior for aroid aquatic plants adjusting to new water chemistry. Once established, it will steadily generate new leaves. Propagation is simple and achieved by cleanly cutting along the horizontal rhizome once the plant has matured, separating healthy daughter offsets to replant elsewhere in the aquarium.
