Beginner Care Guide & Aquarium Set-Up
1. Tank Size & Decor
Because YoYo Loaches are active swimmers and natural scavengers, a minimum aquarium size of 100–120 liters is recommended. Use fine sand or smooth gravel substrate to protect their sensitive facial barbels. Provide plenty of hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, or caves, as they enjoy resting in sheltered areas during the day.
2. Water Parameters
-
Temperature: 24°C – 28°C (75°F – 82°F)
-
pH Range: 6.5 – 7.5
-
Hardness: 5 – 12 dGH
3. Behavior & Compatibility
Always keep Botia lohachata in groups of 5 or more. When kept alone, they can become shy or display minor territorial stress toward tankmates. They pair exceptionally well with peaceful surface- and mid-water species such as tetras, rasboras, gouramis, and barbs. Note: Avoid housing them with ornamental shrimp or small pest snails, as these are natural food sources for loaches.
